ON SUNDAY, MARCH 27th, THE FINAL EVENT OF THE PROGRAM “LIVE AND ACT!” WILL BE HELD
Over 45 young people from Sofia, Plovdiv, Gabrovo and Berkovitsa will present their way to understand and protect human rights in Sofia on 27.03.2011 at 11 am in the Cultural club”Petar Beron”, 109 “Vitosha” blvd. The event is the second and final closing meeting of the training program “Live and act!” held with the financial support of CEE Trust by “Step for Bulgaria” volunteers who worked with youths without parents in six Bulgarian cities.
Program “Live and act!” developed by voluntary youth organization “Step for Bulgaria” has two main objectives. The first is to create a social environment for a better understanding of human rights’ violations and discriminatory practices faced by young people deprived of parental care. The second is to train representatives of the target group of young people participating in the program, and representatives of their communities to act prudently in protecting their basic human rights.
Volunteers from “Step for Bulgaria”, thanks to several years of work with young people from children’s homes, realize that children from homes meet a number of social prejudices that obstruct their successful integration into society. They are often denied of access to some basic public services – for example, the pool in the summer. Or denied a job because of stiff understanding that they lack of proper habits and skills to deal with it. Volunteers hope that the training will help youth to understand why they encounter unfair reactions in our society and how they can resist prejudice, discrimination, and impairment of their human dignity and human rights.
Social awareness and involvement in the program is encouraged by the preparation of final products (works of art / presentations / training of public debate, scenes, etc.) that children from institutions in Varna and Silistra already presented in Varna on March 12th. Now it’s time their peers from Sofia, Plovdiv, Gabrovo and Berkovitsa to share what they have learned and accomplished, in recent months. Anyone who has the desire to learn more about how today the rights of disadvantaged youth are violated and how we can all help to respect them is welcome at the event!
The event is organized with the financial support of the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe and with the kind assistance of Cultural club “Dr Petar Beron”.
